Q Description: The final paper for the undergraduate students in this class is an annotated bibliography on a health-communication-related research topic. The final paper for the graduate students in this class is a research proposal on a health-communication-related research topic. This "Research Topic Assignment" is a preliminary step for both undergraduate and graduate students in this class toward the final paper for this class (whether that's an annotated bibliography or a research proposal). Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to help you practice the following skills that are essential to your success in this course / in school / in this field / in professional life beyond school: • how to identify a research topic • how to explain the importance of a proposed research topic • how to identify peer-reviewed research on the topic Instructions: Submit a document (maximum 1 page) that answers the following questions: 1) What is your proposed health communication research topic? 2) What question or questions do you want to investigate regarding this topic? (List at least one question.) 3) Why are you interested in this topic? OR Why is this topic important to study? 4) What is the communication angle in this topic? In other words, how is this topic related to health communication? 5) Provide the title of one peer-reviewed journal article that has information that is relevant to your topic. 6) What research method (for example, interviews, survey, content analysis, etc.) do you plan to use to investigate your research question? (Note: This question is only for graduate students in this class.) If you're having trouble coming up with a research topic, watch this short video (see below) by former UNO graduate student Julia Quigley for tips on how to identify a research topic. https://youtu.be/nqORbfCaciY
